Studies have shown that having plants in your home can improve concentration and reduce stress levels, as well as improving the air quality around the home. With the last 2 years meaning the country has spent more time in their homes than ever before, it\u2019s understandable that this trend has continued to rise in popularity as we try to bring the feeling of nature into our home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The trend emphasises creating a calm and tranquil environment that evokes the feeling of being with nature. However, it\u2019s not just the physical greenery that will see you achieving this trend: shades of green, either with fully painted rooms or smaller accents around the home will be key, too. Pairing varying shades of green such as khaki or emerald with softer hues of sage is perfect for this trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FA more environmentally focused and responsible use of materials is at the heart of this trend, which is set to be huge for 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ben White, design expert at Swyft says: \u201cSustainability and use of organic materials have become prominent in recent years. With the public’s increased exposure to climate change, the idea of sustainability has fed into the interior industry and our homes. This will translate into how we buy furniture; a move towards furniture items with reclaimed woods and accessories with recycled glass and metal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2022, consumers will start to move away from mass production and instead choose interiors that offer a longer lifespan whilst still being timeless and functional. Renewable and biodegradable materials such as cork will play a huge part in this trend, linking to the \u2018Biophilic Design\u2019 trend which sees us bringing nature into the home. It\u2019s insulating properties makes it a great choice for kitchens or even flooring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For those who prefer an artificial tree instead of a real one, use eucalyptus or pine stems around your home (or even placed inside your artificial tree) to replicate the nostalgic smell of a real tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rounded edges will still be here in 2022, however will expand into new areas of the home. This trend really started to take off this past year, paying homage to a timeless mid-century trend dating back to the 60s and 70s. Moving into the new year, curved and rounded edges will begin expanding into new areas of the home \u2013 from sofas and footstools through to kitchen islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The high-street has really took over this trend in the past year, with the likes of MADE.com and H&M Home offering smaller doses of the trend. Curved sculptural elements and mushroom lamps that cast a soft glow around the space have been popular with large audiences, while more statement pieces such as plush velvet armchairs and sofas with rounded edges are also becoming ever more popular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Multifunctional Spaces<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
One of the most exciting trends for us is \u2018Multifunctional Spaces\u2019 \u2013 this trend applies to spaces, furniture and full rooms. After being confined to our own homes for a large part of the past 2 years and working from home becoming the cultural norm for many, this time allowed consumers to see how they can make the most of their homes. Re-purposing existing areas or rooms to suit multiple needs will be a priority for a lot of people in 2022 and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the idea of having multifunctional rooms, opting for multifunctional furniture is another huge trend \u2013 one greatly appreciated by those working with smaller spaces or renting a room. Wardrobes concealing a hidden desk, or sofas turning into beds will continue to soar in popularity over the coming months whilst we look to adapt the space we have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the world looks to more sustainable options for the home, shopping for vintage pieces will start to become the preferred method for a lot of homeowners and renters. Not only are they a great option for re-purposing and upcycling, but they are also laden with original detailing and craftsmanship that hold a wealth of character and history \u2013 not to mention how expensive they would be to re-create today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As well as this trend\u2019s ability to add uniqueness and personality to your home, it is also by far the most environmentally friendly option, tying into the \u2018Sustainability Minded\u2019 trend perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Black accents and hardware have seen a steady increase in popularity over more traditional metal alternatives in recent months \u2013 and this trend will continue to soar in 2022. It\u2019s a great way to add some drama and interest to a scheme, particularly when paired with lighter and more neutral elements of a room such as paint colours and large sofas or flooring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The trend can be incorporated through lamps, table legs, taps and more. Even swapping out handles on kitchen cabinets or sideboards is a great way to update a space without having to totally redecorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
